It cannot be called surprising. In fact, Fontys scores exactly the same as previous national polls when it comes to elections in the United States. The poll that Bron conducted last week showed that Kamala Harris received 80 percent of the votes and Donald Trump 20 percent.
Fontys students and employees could cast their votes in two places: on this website and on Bron’s Instagram channel.
On the website, Kamala Harris received almost 78 percent of the almost 350 votes cast. Trump reached more than 22 percent. On Instagram, support for Harris was even greater: 90 percent of the more than 140 votes cast.
Some also left comments of explanation. They were less about Harris and more about Trump. “Everything Trump does is stupid.” “Anything better than Trump.” “Because Trump is a criminal.” “Because they’re both no good,” (wonder what that person voted for…).
But also: “Donald Trump is the man who will fix America. Can’t wait for the elections.” And: I hope Trump becomes president. He will make America great again, stop inflation, stop the wars, and tackle drugs.”
By the way, it is of course a poll without any meaning, as Dutch people are not allowed to vote in the US. Moreover, many international students will not have seen the poll (source unfortunately does not appear in English).
While the exact same poll was held last week during a discussion panel with mainly international students as audience. That gave a completely different result: 50/50.
