Fonte do Bastardo Takes Lead in Semi-Finals with Victory over Sporting in Azores

Insulares won the third game of the semi-finals tonight in the Azores

Fonte do Bastardo is one victory away from qualifying for the playoff final for the title, as they took the lead tonight (2-1) in the semi-finals against Sporting. In a third game that was played 11 days after the initial date, due to Sporting’s refusal to play on March 26th, citing the illness of its players, the islanders made the home advantage count, winning a game that, however, was only decided by end of five sets, by partials of 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 15-13. Fonte do Bastardo can then guarantee the final if they also win the fourth game, scheduled for this Saturday at Pavilhão João Rocha. If the lions win, there will be a fifth meeting, on the 12th, in the Azores.

Remember that the winner of this tie will face Benfica in the final. The eagles are already qualified, after beating Leixões in three games.

In any case, the outcome of the tie between Sporting and Fonte do Bastardo is still subject to approval “after the decision that may be handed down by the Disciplinary Board of the FPV in the ongoing disciplinary procedure”, revealed the Federation (FPV), referring to referred to the ongoing inquiry into the fact that Sporting did not go to the game on March 26, citing the illness of several players.
