Fonda Tsiskanias: Helping Musicians in Difficult Times Through Social Creative Camps

After a three-year forced break, the fourth social creative camp of “Fonda Tsiskanias” took place in August – help for those musicians who have “fallen out” of the music scene during difficult periods of their lives.

A shared sense of unity

“Being together and creating songs at the “Fonda Tsiskania” camps is not only “therapy” for musicians, it is also a real and tangible contribution to helping the brothers and sisters of the ministry in difficulties: during the camp, the musicians create quality songs that will later be played on radio stations, public places and streamed, allowing the compensation received for the related rights to go back to the “Tzskaņa Foundation”, where it is reinvested in providing assistance,” says singer Katrīna Dimanta, who very actively participated in both this and two previous creative camps.

Liena Edwards, head of “Fonda Pizskaņas”, is proud that more than 30 musicians were at the camp this year, helping their colleagues in trouble: “It is a pleasure that the musicians’ response and desire to help only grows every time!”

«Creative camp – these are common thoughts, a common sense of unity. In it, we meet and remind each other that we exist,” emphasizes musician and composer, member of the board of the “Fonda Tsiskania” Kārlis Auzāns.

“Music is a profession that burns people. To be an artist, you have to be out of your comfort zone, and it’s a tough journey,” says producer Kaspars Ansons, one of the participants of the camp and supporters of “Fonda Pziskanias”. “Any musician may have a moment when they need support from those around them. That’s why it’s cool that there are other musicians who support in these difficult moments.»

Everything can happen

“Funds Pizskaņa” hopes that the tradition of musicians’ socially creative camps will continue, therefore very soon, on October 8, all music lovers, enjoyers and any simply active person are invited to the second musicians’ charity run “Pieliec plecu!” around Mara pond in Riga.

Last year, in the first musicians’ charity run, the participation fee paid by the participants was entirely directed to providing psychological help to musicians who needed it. This year, the goal is to collect funds for the organization of social creative camps for future musicians. You can apply for the run on the “Fonda Tsiskania” website at “lidzskana.lv” by making a targeted donation – a registration fee of 10 euros, which will be directed in full to the organization of social creative camps for musicians.

“Funds Izskaņa means a lot to me,” says musician and composer Arnis Mednis. “Such a fund that helps musicians who have been hurt is very useful. Nowadays, it is so valuable, because anything can happen to a person.”

“It was a very difficult moment in my life. And then it was “Funds Pizskaņa” that lent a helping hand,” says Dainis Dobelnieks, soloist of the legendary group “Eolika”. “That’s why I can say: yes, “Funds Izskaņa” is important both in my life and, I’m sure, also in the life of other musicians who needed help. So thank you for helping me at a very, very painful moment in my life, thank you for supporting me so that I can go in front of the audience again, be on stage, do the work that I love. And I will do this work as long as the audience needs me and the audience likes what I and we do on stage.”
