Singer Ivo Fomins celebrated his 55th birthday on Saturday, March 4, and the fact that, thanks to the great interest of the audience, he was able to announce additional concerts of his anniversary tour probably made it especially pleasant for the Liepaja native.
Both in honor of his 55th anniversary and in celebration of his 30 years on stage, Ivo Fomins has announced additional concerts of his anniversary concert tour “30 years on stage and in your hearts” this spring and summer. Therefore, the tour will start a day earlier – with an event on March 16 in the “Cēsis” concert hall. Ivo’s second concert will also take place there on March 17, but after that his path will lead to the Latgale embassy “Gors” (on March 19), as well as the Ventspils theater “Jūras vārti”, where two concerts are included in the new schedule of the tour on March 24. In general, the tour schedule has been supplemented with five more concerts, reaching the mark of 16 concerts, it will last until May.
“In the concerts, I want to reflect what I have done on stage for these thirty years – a large part of the songs that have sounded during my career. They will be songs from the very early years of my career, also from the time of the duo “Fomins and Kleins”, something from “Melnas Princesses”, also the best songs from all four of my albums, and, of course, also the favorite compositions of the listeners,” says Ivo .
A bit of biography. Ivo Fomins started his musical career in the 1980s, when he formed the ensemble “Saldās sejas” together with Tomas Klein, Siegfried Muktupāvela and Guntar Račas as a teenager. Already at the age of 18, Ivo joined the group “Neptūns”. In 1987, Ivo and his brother Rodrigo (or Igo) got involved in the project “Brothers of Liepāja”. Among the biggest solo successes – in 1989 he won the third place in the competition of young singers “Jūrmala”, in 1990 and 1994 he was recognized as the best vocalist at the rock festival “Liepājas Dzintars”.
In the first half of the 1990s, Ivo Fomins sang in the rock groups “Libau” and “The Cucumbers”, but in 1998 he became the lead soloist of the “Black Princess” band of Félix ħiģels. In 2002, Ivo created the duo “Fomins & Kleins” together with guitarist Tomas Klein, and in the 2003 Eurovision song contest in Latvia, they took second place with the song “Musician”, and in 2004 they won and participated in the song “Dziesmu par laimi” in the big Eurovision contest. Ivo Fomins has released six solo albums, the last of which dates back to 2021 – “Cilvēks”.
