Following Wall Street, Asian markets rose on news of the Covid-19 vaccine Tuesday morning

KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. Asia Pacific stock markets rose in early trading on Tuesday (7/21). Positive sentiment came from the news about the development of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Launch CNBC, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.63% and the Topix index was up 0.17%. South Korea’s Kospi Index rose 0.94%. While in Australia, the ASX 200 benchmark index added 0.7%.

Tuesday’s session followed yesterday’s rise of Wall Street backed by technology stocks.

“Global equity began the trading week in a positive tone because hopes that the Covid-19 vaccine supported optimism,” Felicity Emmett, senior economist at ANZ, said in the morning notes.

Pfizer and BioNTech report preliminary positive data regarding corona vaccine candidates. Other vaccine candidates from Oxford University and AstraZeneca also showed positive immune responses in the initial trials.

The corona virus pandemic, which was first reported in China late last year, has infected more than 14.6 million people and killed more than 608,000.

On the other hand, European leaders resumed negotiations on Monday regarding economic recovery funds to help the country fight the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
