The draw for the group stage of the Europa League took place in Monaco, where the UEFA Super Cup match between Porto and Barcelona will take place today. Rubin and Lokomotiv did not have the strongest opponents, but they can hardly be called the favorites of their groups.
The group stage matches will take place from September 15 to December 15, and the draw for the 1/16 finals and 1/8 finals will take place on December 16. The two strongest teams from each group will advance to the playoffs, as well as the eight clubs that finish third in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Europa League final will take place on May 9, 2012 at the National Stadium in Bucharest.
