Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Competition in the data center business in the country by large conglomerates will be more lively. The Sinarmas Group, through its property company, PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk (BSDE), has confirmed that it will enter the data center business.
BSDE’s President Director, Fransiscus Xaverius RD, said the company has held talks with several strategic partners to work together regarding investment in the data center business. However, Ridwan has not provided further details regarding the amount of investment that has been disbursed.
“There have been talks with several strategic partners to jointly invest in the data center,” said Ridwan, in Public Expose Live 2021, Tuesday (7/9/2021).
He revealed that the data center is an important component in the digital service platform and is expected to continue to grow in the future.
“The data center is one component of the entire digital platform order, thus, this is an important challenge to invest in this field,” he said.
CNBC Indonesia notes, with the entry of the Sinarmas Group, it will now complete the conglomerate in Indonesia that is entering the data center business.
Sinarmas Group also previously developed the Digital Hub area in BSD City which frees startups, tech leaders and the digital community to innovate.
Sinarmas Group’s direct funding for digital technology is one of them by cooperating with Grab in the development of the Grab Innovation and Engineering Lab in BSD City. In addition, Sinarmas’ subsidiary, PT Smarfren Telecom Tbk (FREN) also provides wireless network telecommunications services.
Another conglomerate, Lippo Group, through its subsidiary, PT Multipolar Technology Tbk (MLPT) is also exploring business potential in the data center sector. The data center business will be managed by PT Graha Teknologi Nusantara Information.
Not only that, the Salim Group through its shareholding Anthoni Salim also continues to accelerate digital business through the issuer of data center owned by digital entrepreneur Toto Sugiri, PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCII). The BUMN PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) is already in this business.
