Following Samsung and Apple, Realme sells cellphones without chargers

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Realme is the latest company to sell cellphones without chargers in their boxes. The decision follows two other technology giants Apple and Samsung which have been doing the same since several years ago.

Realme’s move to remove the charger will happen to the Narzo 50A Prime cell phone box. According to the company, the reason behind its decision was its vision of promoting environmentally friendly sustainable development.

The CEO of Realme, Madhav Sheth, said the same thing. The company has a Double Zero target that must be met by 2025.

“We have taken the initiative to focus on sustainability and are working to achieve Double Zero targets such as net-zero carbon emissions by 2025,” Sheth said in an interview, quoted by Phone Arena, Thursday (7/4/2022).

Chargers will still be provided. But users have to buy it separately if they need it, Realme said.

By removing the charger on the Narzo 50A Prime, Realme says it could offer more features. In addition, it keeps the price in a more pocket-friendly range.

“The Narzo 50A Prime is a huge leap forward in terms of chipset performance and screen revolution. It will also help us add more upgrades to the device at the best price and offer in the same class,” said Realme.

For information, Apple is known to have not included a charger since the launch of the iPhone 12. Next, Samsung took similar steps in the Galaxy S21 series and continued on phones in the mid-range and budget classes.
