A post by Lionel Messi is now the most “liked” on Instagram.
Lionel Messi fans have won their declared war on the ‘world record egg’, which previously held the record for the most liked photo on Instagram.
Messi, 35, shared a post on Instagram after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and has since surpassed the egg photo in number of likes.
As of this writing, Messi’s post has just over 59 million likes, breaking the egg’s record of 56.2 million, and likes are expected to continue climbing.
The Argentinian superstar, who has over 400 million Instagram followers, captioned the post by saying, “WORLD CHAMPIONS! I’ve dreamed about it so many times, I’ve wanted it so much that I still haven’t fallen, I can’t believe it.
Several Messi fans have removed their “likes” from the photo of the egg, which was originally supposed to break the record held by Kylie Jenner.
“Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram,” reads the egg’s photo caption. “Let’s beat the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! »
If you’re wondering how a photo of an egg became the most liked post on Instagram, you’re not alone. It was born out of a social media experiment spearheaded by advertising designer Chris Godfrey, who launched a campaign to try and beat Kylie Jenner’s old record of 18 million likes.
