Following Android, Apple Uses Fingerprint on the Screen

Jakarta

News iPhone 14 will remove the notch seems to be true. Apple will implement sensors fingerprint on screen like the ones on Android nowadays.

The effort is known from the patent filed Apple on 27 July. They patent Touch ID and Face ID on the touch screen which will be the new biometric verification option on the iPhone.

Not only Touch ID and Face ID, the front camera will also be embedded on the touch screen. Although this technology will be developed specifically for its future product lines.

Apple did not confirm that this new patent will be presented on the iPhone 14. In the submitted document it is explained that the current iPhone design has an image sensor next to the screen rather than part of it.

Typically, the imaging sensor is positioned under a protective cover, adjacent to the display stack. As such, conventional electronic devices incorporating a display stack and an imaging sensor typically require a large area protective enclosure that extends beyond the boundary of the display stack to provide space to accommodate the imaging sensor.,’ explains Apple.

This conventional construction unintendedly increases the apparent size of the display-limiting bezel region, while also increasing the size and volume of the electronic device case unintentionally.,” he continued.

Touch ID patent on the Photos screen: Apple–

The main focus of this patent is to embed the image sensor on the screen to read fingerprints i.e. Touch ID on the touch screen!

“To simplify functionality, many schemes follow a structure where the device performs a cross-screen image scan to capture one or more images of the user’s fingerprint touching a specific location (imaging area).”

Apple added that the same approach could be taken for other forms of biometric identification, including Face ID. This opens up the possibility of Mac devices being given this feature in the future.

And that’s in line with a recent Bloomberg report that said Face ID will be available on Mac in the next few years.

While the front camera on the screen is probably still part of the long-term plan. Apple is currently trying to find a solution for how the quality of the camera still provides good shots even though the screen is blocked.
