Follow up France 2: this serial killer thriller is (slightly) inspired by a true story

Continuethe France 2 thriller series about a serial killer, slightly inspired by a true story.

Airing in fall 2023 on 13e Rue, Continue landed on France 2 on Monday September 9. Carried by Marie Colomb which impressed many critics, this series and its broadcast on France 2 could definitively remove the young actress (who played mainly in The Animals, The Royal Route or even The Magnetics). The series tells the funny story of a serial killer who communicates through social networks with Léna (played by Marie Colomb), 28 years old, a new community manager at the Paris Police Prefecture.

Awarded the best series at the last La Rochelle fiction festival, Follow was written by Victoire d’Aboville, Sophie Dab (who plays an important role in the series) and Florian Spitze. The story is still mostly fiction, but in reality, this story was born from conversations between the screenwriters and the life of a real person.

Therefore, the character of Léna was inspired by Julie Vincent, the development manager of Bonne Pioche Story, the production company behind the series as explained by Victoire d’Aboville, co-creator Continue, in a press release:

« It turns out that during the creation of the series, I was working with Julie Vincent, who was a community manager at the Paris police headquarters, in retraining. Our conversations inspired the pitch for Follow I proposed to 13e Rue: a story around a contemporary Guy Georges, in the age of social networks, and a young woman who wouldn’t be a cop. I love true crime and I love developing stories based on characters who are not where they should be, but who are able to develop new talents in the face of new circumstances.. »

Ah young people and their phones…

In addition to the experiences of Julie Vincent and the parallel with Guy Georges, it is clear that the series is inspired by other true stories to tell, as silly and famous. Therefore, Continue draws heavily on the history of the Zodiac (already told by David Fincher in his eponymous film) a contemporary version with the presence of social networks.

Beyond the story, first impressions of the series evoke emotion in the manner of other works on serial killers including The Silence of the Lambs by Jonathan Demme or the saga A thousand thousand (also adapted by David Fincher in 2012). The series starts broadcasting on September 9 on France 2. It is already available in its entirety on France.tv.
