Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The race for the world’s richest man to penetrate the edge of outer space continues. Formerly billionaire Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Galactic, was the first to successfully enter space on July 11th.
On July 20, 2021, Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin will do the same with the New Shepard Blue Origin spacecraft. The occasion of July 20 will mark the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Also on the flight were Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark Bezos. In addition there are two others, namely the legendary aerospace pioneer Wally Funk.
Interestingly, there is the figure of Oliver Daemen who is only 18 years old, also flying in to replace the bidder who won this flight auction last month worth US $ 28 million whose figure is still being kept secret.
The physics major replaced the winning bidder, who Blue Origin said was unable to fly on the mission “due to scheduling issues.” Blue Origin said the auction winner “has chosen to fly on a future New Shepard mission.”
Blue Origin called Daemen the “first paying customer” who flew with New Shepard, but did not disclose how much it paid.
Daemen will be the youngest person to fly into space, while 82 -year -old Wally Funk will be the oldest person to be an astronaut to the edge of outer space.
As is known, the New Shepard rocket, will carry the capsule to an altitude of more than 340,000 feet. The rocket has flown more than a dozen successful test flights without passengers, including one in April at the company’s facilities in the Texas Desert.
The plane is designed to carry up to six people and fly without a pilot, while Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic still requires two pilots. The capsule has large windows to give passengers a view of the Earth below for about three minutes in zero gravity, before returning to Earth.
“I wanted to do this flight because it’s something I’ve wanted to do my whole life,” Bezos, who is the world’s richest person, said in a video posted on his Instagram some time ago. CNBC International, Thursday (15/7).
Jeff Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000 and owns the company wholly, funded through the sale of shares of his Amazon stock.
