Foliar fertilization in watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) cv. Peacock under the conditions of the Cañete Valley

Abstract

The experiment was carried out on the Don Germán farm (IRD Costa) of the National Agrarian University of La Molina. Four sources of foliar fertilizers were evaluated in the cultivation of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) cv. Peacock. The foliar fertilizers evaluated were: Cal 40, Ajifol plus, Sequential complete emulsion, Nutrisil magnesium, there were also two controls, one without any fertilization and the other with only conventional fertilization to the soil with a dose of 233-184-150 of NPK in kg/ha. The experimental design used was completely randomized blocks with four repetitions. The variables evaluated were: average length and width of watermelon fruits, percentage of leaf dry matter, yield in total weight of watermelons and number of fruits. The highest yield was obtained with Ajifol plus (51607.1 Kg/ha) and with the application of foliar fertilizer cal 40 (51160.7 kg/ha), both did not differ significantly from each other, but they did have a significant difference with the control without fertilization with which 32700 kg/ha was obtained. In the number of fruits per hectare, the highest value was obtained with the application of Ajifol plus with 5446 fruits per hectare, followed by the complete Sequential with 5357 fruits per hectare, both did not differ significantly from each other, but they did have a significant difference with the control with which only 3393 fruits were harvested per hectare. The best averages in fruit length were obtained with the complete Sequential foliar fertilizer (37.5 cm) and with Ajifol Plus (37.17 cm). The highest percentage of dry matter in leaves with a significant difference with the control was observed with the use of Ajifol Plus (19.48%). The other variables did not show significant differences.
The experiment took place at Don Germán farm (IRD coast), Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. Four foliar fertilizers were evaluated in watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) cv. Peacock .Foliar fertilizers evaluated were: Cal 40, Ajifol plus, Sequential full emulsion Nutrisil magnesium. Two check treatments were included, one with no fertilization at all, and one with soil fertilization using 233-184-150 kg/ha of NPK. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. The variables evaluated were: length and average diameter of the watermelon fruits , foliar dry matter content, total number of fruits and total weight.. The highest yield was obtained with Ajifol plus (51607.1 kg / ha) and witrh Cal 40 (51160.7 kg / ha), both did not differ significantly from each other, but had significant difference with the control with no fertilization (32700 kg / ha). The highest number of fruits per hectare was obtained with the application of Ajifol plus with 5446 fruits per hectare, followed by the full Sequential with 5357 fruits per hectare, both with no statistical differences. Control with no fertilization showed only 3393 fruits per hectare. Best average fruit length was obtained with Full sequential foliar fertilizer (37.5 cm) and the Ajifol Plus (37.17 cm). Highest foliar dry matter content was observed using Ajifol Plus (19.48%). Other variables showed no significant differences.
