Fokerots / Ābelītis enter the semifinals of the European U18 Championship

Latvian beach volleyball players Kristians Fokerots / Kārlis Ābelītis have reached the semi-finals on Saturday after three victories in the European U18 Championship in Izmir.

It has already been reported that the Latvian men’s duo with the eighth number Kristians Fokerots / Kārlis Ābelītis, sown in Izmir, today 2-0 (21:15, 21:17) beat the Polish duo Aleksandrs Čahorovskis / Filips Lejava (11th) .

In the eighth final, the Latvians continued the series of victories, beating the Israelis Kevin Kuzmichov and Joava Jelina 2-0 (21:16, 21:15), who were placed in the tenth number in the tournament.

The Latvian duo, supervised by coach Laura Iecelnieks, continued the winning streak in the quarterfinals, beating the Swedish duo Linus Isaksons / Hampus Ekstrands (9th) 2-1 (20:22, 21:18, 15: 9), revenge for the loss in the second match of the tournament with 0 -2 (14:21, 12:21).

On Sunday, at 12 o’clock in the semi-finals of the Latvian duo in the fight with the Russian pair Yegor Zharovin / Vitaly Markov (27th).

First, on Saturday, Katrīna Lukstiņa / Terēze Estere Grants suffered a loss in the first round of the playoffs, who were seeded with the sixth number in the tournament. They gave up 0-2 (18:21, 19:21) to the Russian duo Arina Ryazova / Yelizaveta Gubina, who has the second number in the tournament.

The men’s duo Sandis Bērziņš / Dāvis Teteris (28th) also lost in the three-set fight. With 1-2 (15:21, 21:15, 13:15) they acknowledged the superiority of the 26th Ukrainian couple Mikhail Merkulov / Kirill Tereshchenko and also took the shared 17th place.

The championship has already ended for the second Latvian women’s duo Kate Vasiljeva / Elīza Dreimane (26th), who took the last place in her group, taking the shared 25th place.

The play-off stage of the competition has started on Saturday, but the semi-finals and finals will take place on Sunday.

Last year, Varvara Brailko and Anete Namiķe took the 5th place in the European U-18 Championship in the Austrian city of Baden, while Trent Jankovskis and Ralf Namiķis took the 9th place.

Another European Youth Championship in Izmir will take place next week, when the U-22 competition will take place there from 23 to 27 September.
