Iranian security forces thwarted an assassination attempt on Mahsa Amini’s father – the young woman whose death in custody a year ago sparked nationwide protests, state media reported.
The official news agency IRNA reported that the attempt on Amjad Amini took place when he was going to visit his daughter’s grave at Aichi Cemetery in the western city of Sakez.

Saturday marked the first anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death.
“Security forces arrested several members of a terrorist group who wanted to kill Amjad Amini”IRNA reported, citing Kurdistan Provincial Deputy Governor Mehdi Ramezani.
The announcement did not name those arrested or the “terrorist group” they were believed to belong to, saying only that Amjad Amini’s assassination attempt ‘was thwarted’.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, died in police custody on September 16 last year after being detained for allegedly violating the Islamic republic’s strict dress code for women.
Her death sparked months of demonstrations that killed hundreds of people, including dozens of security personnel, in what Tehran described as “riots” incited by foreign governments and “hostile media”.
