Foil came to Antalya without any of its Olympic team champions from Tokyo. It was a group of novices who came to Antalya on the side of the Blues, since the four fencers were taking part in their first European championship in Turkey. And they still managed to place one of their own on a podium trusted by three Italians, this Saturday. It was Maximilien Chastanet, 26, who slipped between Daniele Garozzo, Giorgio Avola and Tommaso Marini.

Chance of the table, the French had first eliminated each other: Chastanet dismissed his teammate Alexandre Ediri in the second round (15-6), then, in the next round, Alexandre Sido dominated his partner Pierre Loisel (15-14 ).

But these two survivors then suffered, each in turn, the implacable law of the Italian Marini. Sido was powerless in the quarter-finals (15-6) and Chastanet, victim of arm cramps at the start of the assault, could not do anything either in the semi-finals (15-6).
