Fogo Unia Leszno, after 75 days, went in full squad and perhaps showed their full potential. On Friday, ZOOleszcz gave no chance to GKM Grudziądz, beating him 55:35. Zengot and Holder, returning from injury, did well.
Janusz Kołodziej and Nazar Parnicki returned a week ago, and now Chris Holder and Grzegorz Zengota. After a terrible period full of injuries and seven defeats in a row, the team from Leszno was finally able to go to the competition with a full squad. It was the first such moment since… the match in Grudziądz. The match that the Bulls won after 50:40 and which keeps them comfortable in the table. And in it, Unia was seventh before Friday’s clash, while GKM was sixth. Three points separated them.
So the importance of this match was very high. The fight is going on both for relegation, although the situation of Cellfast Wilki Krosno, which closes the stake, is even worse, but also for promotion to the play-offs. The attendance on Friday evening was good, which made the stands feel support for the hosts. – It gives comfort – said Antoni Mencel in an interview with Eleven Sports.
The student of the Union was right, because the stadium was literally bursting with joy very quickly, after four runs. After a draw at the start… the hosts hit three times 5:1. The juniors won in a very good style, which in the case of Mencel was continued in the fourth race, in which the youngster easily beat Frederik Jakobsen. Previously, he flashed Zengot, who after the start did not let Nick Pedersen take him outside and together with Jaimon Lidsey escaped to the finish line.
The Grudziądz team were lost and immediately found themselves in trouble in a meeting on a track where they never won, but recorded as many as 13 defeats in their history. After such a beginning, it looked like another series, and in addition, the second series ultimately did not turn out to be successful for them. Although Wadim Tarasienko was in very good shape, and Max Fricke did a great job in the exciting clash with Zengota, before the break without a chance with the duo Janusz Kołodziej – Bartosz Smektała Pedersen was “free as ketchup”.

So GKM was still clearly losing (14:28), and time was running out inexorably. Frederik Jakobsen, who was failing in another match this year, did not help. In the eighth set, he recorded a second defeat with Mencel, while Zengota made up for the loss from the previous start and the advantage of the locals increased again. A moment of little joy accompanied the sad fans in Grudziądz at the end of the third series. Kacper Pludra in the “special” duel with Holder turned out to be slightly better. However, for the second time Pedersen did not reach the finish line.
It is impossible not to devote a few words to Kołodziej. The leader of the Bulls rode the match for a long time on another, his planet, which no one else was able to reach. Only in the fourth series, after the fight, he was defeated by Tarasenko, who could not complain about the speed of the motorcycle, although it was not easy for the guest competitor. Summing up: Kołodziej scored 28 out of 30 possible points in this year’s two-match with the opponent from Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
After the twelfth race, Unia was leading 44:28 and could breathe a sigh of relief. She has just snapped a disastrous seven-game losing streak, the worst in 53 years. She also returned to the playoff berth zone. The triumph for three points was ensured by Holder. The individual world champion from 2012 was getting better, more confident and more effective from run to run. The Australian, just like Zengota, returned to the track in a really good style and certainly his presence in the machine park strengthened the morale of the Bulls.
Ultimately, the team from Grudziądz lost in Wielkopolska by 20 points, which is certainly not a reason to be proud after their recent successful performances. However, there was no Pedersen in this match, who made one more attempt in the fourteenth race, but again he was not in a hurry to reach the finish line. Fricke was also weaker.
