Fabio Fognini sheds light on his failure to call for the commitments of National in Davis Cup. “I read in some press outlets that I decided and requested to take a step back, to rest and take a breath. False and itchy. I’m sorry that clarity and sincerity were not used. My story doesn’t deserve it“, declared the Italian tennis player, who attacks the FIP. “A few weeks ago I was called up beforehand. Then on Monday I got the call from the captain: suddenly I’m no longer part of the plans, without justifiable explanations and in ways that I have not shared, not very respectful of my story”.
Fognini’s disappointment
“In unsuspecting times – continues Fognini – despite what transpired, I communicated my desire to be part of the group for Bologna, making myself available to the captain, who asked me to play doubles with the other national team mates in the meantime, which I duly did and to keep me trained and on track. And so I did and am doing, today more than ever I want to attack the ATP ranking again, overcome age and pain – says the Ligurian tennis player -. A few weeks ago I was pre-called and this made me happy and proud once again. But then on Monday, while I was in Genoa, the captain’s call came to me: suddenly I no longer fit into the plans, without justifiable explanations and in ways that I didn’t agree with, disrespectful of my history and my Italian past, because until lastly I was informed that I would be in the squad and available to take to the field and for this reason I decided to train and play the Challenger to the best of my strength to be ready and available. I’m sorry that clarity and sincerity were not used. My story doesn’t deserve it.”
