Foggia beats “Massimino” and beats Catania at home 2-0. Marino and Tonin decided the match, both scoring in the second half.
First half characterized by balance and above all with few noteworthy opportunities. The pace is low on the pitch except for a few flare-ups. The best chance of the 45 minutes came around the quarter of an hour when Rocca fired a sure shot on Castellini’s cross but Nobile made a great intervention, stretching to his right and putting it in the corner. Response after 3 minutes from Peralta who wedges himself into the area but misses the target, then Embalo also tries, but his curling shot ends up at the back of the pitch with Livieri immobile. For the rest, little to say: the hosts play on the attack, Cudini’s team defends and restarts but at half-time it is 0-0.
In the second half Foggia started well and became dangerous with two conclusions from Di Noia and Marino but without finding the target. Tabbiani changes several men and Catania picks up the pace: Chiricò shows off and comes close to taking the lead with a left-handed curling shot that hits the crossbar in the 67th minute. The Rossoneri team seems ready to push but is frozen in the 73rd minute by the sudden guest goal. On a touch from Peralta, a deflection sends the ball to Marino who from 25 meters places the ball with his right foot into the corner to the right of Bethers (who took over from Livieri at the start of the second half) who can’t do anything. From here the Etna assault begins to recover the score and a duel is engaged between Nobile and Chiricò, clearly won by the Foggia goalkeeper who gets his hand on a free kick aimed at the corner. Instead, when the goalkeeper makes a mistake, the former Padova and Crotone player graces him from a good position by kicking badly with his right. In the 87th minute there was another rebound from Nobile on Chiricò, then in the second minute of injury time Castellini’s shot from outside ended just wide. In the 95th minute the goal that ends the match arrives: a shared error between Bethers and Curado, Tonin takes advantage of it and passes it on goal to give Foggia the 3 points. Thus it ends at the “Massimino”.
As usual here are the Top & Flops:
TOP
Chiricò (Catania): The man who turns on the light in terms of offensive conclusions. He engages in an open duel with Nobile until the last minute but is unable to break him. Then the crossbar and the post also think about it (with the complicity of the goalkeeper) to tell him ‘no’. DANGEROUS AND UNLUCKY
Nobile (Foggia): Although not perfect in some interventions, the Satanelli goalkeeper is really very effective in terms of what the final result says, more than the person who clocked in. The most important intervention is the deviation to send Chiricò’s ball onto the crossbar. His saves allow Foggia to keep a clean sheet and bring home three fundamental points. TAKE IT ALL
FLOP
Sarao (Catania): He was trapped in the grip of Carillo and Marzupio and never managed to be dangerous during his match which lasted 55 minutes before being replaced by Di Carmine. Chance wasted from the 1st minute for him. SMOKY
Injuries (Foggia): Rizzo stops during the warm-up, while the match is underway Garattoni and Marzupio stop in a few minutes. Truly an unhappy moment for Cudini who has already had to do without many elements and now he will lose three of them in one fell swoop for who knows how long. SOUND NOTE
