Fogel will have no competitors to re-elect as President of the International Luge Federation / Article

Nominations for the upcoming Congress in June are over and Fogelis is the only candidate.

The FIL Congress will take place on 18 and 19 June in Halle, Tyrol, Austria.

Fogelis was elected President of FIL for two years in November 2020, when he was the only candidate for the position. All 30 voters voted for Fogel as president of the FIL.

Former German President Joseph Fendt announced in February 2020 that he would resign as president of the organization and publicly said he wanted Fogel to take over. The German resigned after more than 26 years of work.

Fogelis is the first representative of Latvia to work as the President of the International Federation of Olympic Sports.

Previously, Fogelis has been the Secretary General of the FIL since the summer of 2018, but before that he was the Vice President of Technical Affairs of the FIL since 1994.

Fogelis is the President of the Council of Latvian Sports Federations and a member of the Executive Committee of the Latvian Olympic Committee. Last September, he was included in the International Olympic Committee’s Consultative Commission for the Next Winter Olympics.
