Fofana art when Molde got a brilliant start in Europe – VG

(Molde – Kisvarda 3–0) After a first half in which little went for Molde, the Norwegian league leaders caught fire. Molde jewel David Datro Fofana (19) showed up with a work of art that made his teammate compare him to Ronaldo “Fenomeno”.

It was with ten minutes left in the game that the Ivorian was responsible for the game’s big moment. The striker took the ball from the midfield, dribbled past four men in a rude manner, tipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the goal. In the background, the teammates stood almost stunned again.

– He doesn’t understand Norwegian, so I can say that. He reminds me a bit of Ronaldo, the “real” Ronaldo. It’s fun to play with him, he’s a wonderful player, says Etzaz Hussain to Romsdal’s Budstikke.

The Ivorian himself was in brilliant spirits.

– I find it difficult to speak now, because I am so happy, says Fofana to Romsdal’s Budstikke.

MOLDE MAGIC: Datro Fofana showed up with an incredible solo goal as Molde won 3–0 against Kisvarda in the first match of the third round of the Conference League qualifiers.

In the end, Molde won 3–0. It was Hussain and Martin Linnes who were responsible for the other two goals, but it is naturally the Fofana score that will remain as the big talking point.

– I think it was Fofana, that was enough. He’s such a “Foffa” that it’s completely up in the sky, that I’m tearing my hair out a little. He needs to stabilize his performance throughout 90 minutes, but for one player. It’s nice that we have him in Molde, says coach Erling Moe.

He didn’t want to put a price tag on his jewel.

– Well, he will be here, so it doesn’t matter that much. We will use the time with him so that he will be properly mature when that time comes. It is important to have the right timing for things, says Moe.

VG expert Christian Gauseth predicts that the 19-year-old will be the biggest sale from the Eliteserien ever.

After a tame and toothless first half by the home team, the Molde coach took action and inserted, among others, Kristian Eriksen in what was his debut for Molde after the transfer from HamKam.

However, he wasn’t going to steal the show.

After Etzaz Hussain, who came off the bench at the same time as Eriksen, made it 1-0 from an offside position, Fofana took matters into his own hands. The striker started in midfield, dribbled past four opponents and the goalkeeper, before scoring 2–0.

Just minutes later, Martin Linnes made it 3–0 with a finish under the goalkeeper from an angle. Thus, Molde has a brilliant starting point before the return match in Hungary.

THE SUBSTITUTION PAID: Etzaz Hussain came on after the hour and spent a few minutes scoring. However, the goal should have been disallowed for offside.

During the break, former Molde coach and for the evening Romsdal’s Budstikke expert Åge Hareide described the match as a test of patience for the Molders. Current Molde coach Erling Moe agreed.

– It goes a bit in slow motion. We don’t pick up the pace we want, but it’s important to be patient in these games, says Moe.

If Molde advances from the third qualifying round, they will meet either Austrian Wolfsberger or Maltese Gzira United in a doubleheader in the decisive playoff. In the pot is a place in the Conference League group stage.

Wolfsberger are big favourites, but the Austrians only managed 0-0 at home in the first game. Molde’s return match in Hungary will be played next Thursday at 9pm. You can watch the match on VG+.

Fofana also kept up with a magical score against Tromsø. Watch that score in the video below.
