Dominant appearance Manchester City in the first half ensured a 4-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. Citizens made three goals in that period.
Manchester City travels to the Amex Stadium, Saturday (10/23/2021) night WIB in continuation Premier League. The Citizens appeared very dominant in the first half and were 3-0 up at halftime.
Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 13th minute, then two goals from Phil Foden in the 28th and 31st minutes. But Brighton & Hove Albion came back in the second half and troubled Man City.
Brighton narrowed the gap in the 81st minute from Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty. But then Man City managed to add a goal in injury time through Riyad Mahrez and locked the win 4-1.
With this result, Man City temporarily moved up to second place Premier League standings with 20 points from nine games. While Brighton stuck in fourth place with 15 points.
The course of the match
Manchester City immediately controlled the game after the kick off. The visitors pressed Brighton in their own area.
Opportunities in the seventh minute for Man City. Joao Cancelo picked up the ball from Jack Grealish and fired a shot that hit Solly March. Robert Sanchez reacted swiftly and parried the ball.
Barely! Man City almost scored in the 11th minute through attacks from the right side. Sanchez’s shot was touched by Gabriel Jesus, but it was still on goal. Lewis Dunk came on at the last moment to clear the ball across the goal line.
GOAL! Man City really scored in the 13th minute. Phil Foden’s shot hit the Brighton players and bounced. Sanchez tries to catch the ball, scrambles with Gabriel Jesus, but fails.
A wild ball was kicked by Bernardo Silva towards the goal and then Ilkay Gundogan leaked it from close range. Brighton’s players protested because they thought that Sanchez had been harassed by Jesus, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) said there were no fouls.
Brighton had spread threats in the 17th minute through Leandro Trossard. But his shot was still wide to the left of the goal,
Opportunity for Man City in the 19th minute. Phil Foden escaped after receiving Grealish’s pass and just faced the goalkeeper. But Sanchez stepped up at the right time and cut the ball to save it.
Another threat for Brighton a minute later. Grealish’s shot was blocked and fell to Jesus’ feet. The Brazilian striker directed a low shot into the left corner of the goal, which Sanchez could still parry.
GOAL! Man City were 2-0 up in the 28th minute from a quick attack. Grealish runs free on the left after receiving a pass from Silva. Holding the ball back, Grealish then slid the ball to Foden on the right, who finished it into the net.
GOAL! Man City widened the advantage in the 31st minute. Grealish’s shot from the left was cleared by the goalkeeper and the rebound was struck by Jesus. His shot hit Foden and ended up in the left corner of the goal. Foden gets credit for the goal.
A mistake from Rodri saw the ball lost in the Man City defense area in the 43rd minute. Brighton built up a strike and a strike from March was cleared by Ederson, before being caught.
Man City had a chance at the end of the first half. Foden snatched a pass from Guendogan into the left corner of the goal, but Sanchez could still be caught. The first half is over.

Brighton threatened back in the 55th minute. Trossard’s cross was received by Pascal Gross in the middle of the penalty box and ended with a round kick. Still can be stopped by Ederson.
Brighton slowly took control of the game from Man City. Another chance for the hosts in the 58th minute came through Trossard’s shot on the left, but his shot went straight for the keeper.
Man City almost conceded in the 61st minute. Trossard escaped on the left after receiving feedback from Jakub Moder. Ederson’s hard shot was parried by Ederson, then the ball glided thinly over the crossbar.
Brighton’s pressure gave birth to another opportunity in the 74th minute. Lamptey snatched the ball from Grealish and passed to March. March stabbed in from the right and fired, but bounced.
Penalty! Brighton’s efforts paid off when Mwepu was tackled by Ederson in the penalty box and the referee decided a foul. Alexis Mac Allister stepped up as the executioner and directed a shot to the right that Ederson couldn’t stop.
Man City had the opportunity to add a goal in the 89th minute. Foden stabbed in from the left, but his shot was saved brilliantly by Sanchez.
GOAL! Man City added a goal in injury time capitalizing on Brighton’s mistake. The hosts lost the ball in their own defence, the ball was then controlled by Fernandinho, passed to Foden, then passed to Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez beat Sanchez and secured a 4-1 victory.
