Candidates: the ballot promises to be very hotly contested

Pairs from very different political backgrounds should compete for this campaign of departmental elections in the canton of Chartres 1. In the last ballot in 2015, the tandem Karine Dorange (LR) and Daniel Guéret had won by the narrowest of the margins: 261 votes ahead on the left, in the second round. Daniel Guéret resigned after his election to the Senate in September 2020 and replaced by Alain Bellamy, mayor of Clévilliers. The latter is not expected to run for a new term. Indeed, a pair made up of Karine Dorange and Étienne Rouault, new mayor of Champhol, should wear the colors of the “Territories of Eure-et-Loir, departmental majority” group. The left-wing parties (PS, PC…) will also present common candidates from the first round. For Chartres 1, Stéphane Cordier, boss of the Eurelian PS, should be part of the tandem. A new political movement created on March 7, Eure-et-Loir Écologie intends to influence the next local elections. The Chartrains Gérard Leray and Sandra Renda constitute the first declared pair of this movement, in the canton. The Republic on the march should also be present on the starting line for Chartres 1. Gaël Garreau (LREM), leader of the “macronist” opposition in the City Council of Chartres, should launch into the battle. Among the other political parties ready to launch a campaign, the National Rally. Aleksandar Nikolic, departmental delegate of the RN, recalls that the party “will be present in the fifteen cantons of Eure-et-Loir”.
