Big commercial winner of the year 2022, “Le Monde sans fin” still starts 2023 at the top of the ranking of the best comic book sales and continues its journey within the “Top 20 GfK/Weekly Books » where we find it in 5e position, in front (as far as the representatives of the 9e art) les mangas « Jujutsu Kaisen » T18 (6e) a « Mashle » T18 (13e). “Revolution” T2 and “Anatole Latuile” T16 join the “Top 20 BD”, as do some promotional editions from the beginning of the year…
It is indeed a great classic at the start of the year and during the winter sales period to see the appearance of numerous albums distributed at low prices by publishers; which sell all the more in large quantities when they are great classics or other very popular titles.
This is how at the start of 2023 (best wishes to all: health, joy and happiness!) are embedded, obviously temporarily, in the “Top 20 BD”: “The Smurfs” T30 (6e) and T32 (8e), « Lucky Luke » T14 (12e) et 31 (16e), as well as “Boule et Bill” T10 (18e).
Another great classic of the classification, the presence in number of “Mortell Adèle”, of which we find another six collections in this first prize list of the year dissected on BDZoom.com.
Always so classic, the best-sellers year-end are still at the top a few weeks later. Thus – in addition to the quasi-historical phenomenon of the “Endless World” – we find “Blake and Mortimer” T29, “The Arab of the Future” T6 and “Mortell Adèle” T19 of the 2e at the 4e square. “Capital and ideology” (9e), “The Old Furnaces” T7 (10e) and “The Sisters” T17 (17e) are also once again in the game.
Beyond these recurring phenomena, we especially enjoy discovering novelties in the “Top 20 BD”.
This is the case of “Revolution T2: Equality – book 1” developed with four hands, both in text and drawings, by Florent Grouazel and Younn Locard. Set 16 months after the events recounted in the first part of this historical fresco, multi-awarded (Prix Château de Cheverny for historical comics 2019 and Fauve d’or for the best album of Angoulême 2020, among others) and already sold at 80,000 copies, this new chapter, just as remarkably documented as the previous one, focuses on the period of elaboration of the first constitution, while the revolutionary fire is still smoldering under the ashes and the destinies of the characters are intertwined during days as hectic as they are exciting. Initially planned as a trilogy (“liberty”, “equality”, “fraternity”), the abundance of material led the authors to split “Equality” into two books. “Book 2” will focus on the storming of the Tuileries on August 10, 1792 and the events that ensued. Printed in 48,000 copies by Actes Sud/L’An 2, the album takes over the 5e position in the ranking.
Second (and last) entry of the “Top 20 BD”, the 16e collection (printed in 50,000 copies by BD Kids editions) of the (my)adventures of the energetic, disheveled schoolboy Anatole Latuile, the most daring of heroes with more than a million copies of albums to his credit, joins the winners in 7e position. In “Beasts and Beasts” by Olivier Muller and Anne Didier, illustrated by Clément Devaux, Mr. Auzaguet decides to ban any object from school that makes reference to the Startruc favorite series. Anatole and his friends will have to redouble their imaginations to have fun…
