Information on the hiking section of the MSV Eintracht Halberstadt is provided in two parts.
Halberstadt l In the chronicle of the hiking department of the MSV Eintracht Halberstadt, the “Halberstädter Weg” of the Halberstadt section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club was mentioned in connection with the Alpine tour in 2004. For this reason, information about this section should be provided in two parts. Halberstadt had its own division from 1909 to 1945.
After the English “Alpine Club” was founded in London as the first Alpine Club in 1857, the “Austrian Alpine Club” followed in March 1862 in Vienna and in 1869 the “German Alpine Club” in Munich. The Austrians joined the latter as a section in 1873/1874. Thereupon the entire association took on the name German and Austrian Alpine Association (DÖAV).
In the first decades, the focus of the association’s work was on more detailed exploration of the Alps in topographical and physical-geographical terms. In the 20th century, the tasks were significantly expanded: They existed and still exist in the promotion of mountaineering and the development and exploration of the mountain world, in the creation and maintenance of paths and huts (shelters), in the implementation and guidance of mountain trips, in conveying of mountain guides and rescue services, in the publication of magazines, handbooks and textbooks, maps and guides and in the administration of foundations.
The foundation on March 30, 1909
In 1909, a number of Halberstadt mountain friends were organized mainly in the Alpine Club sections of the cities of Magdeburg, Goslar and Braunschweig, but also in more distant places. On March 28, 1909, the ad shown on the right appeared in the “Halberstädter Zeitung und Intellektivenblatt”, inviting participants to participate in a meeting to found a Halberstadt section on March 30th.
After the event, this newspaper reported: “A promising start has been made, the section already has 30 members … The first chairman was Mr. Laddey, the secretary Mr. Bode, the treasurer Mr. Kaufmann Fritz Bätcher, the first and second The assessors were Dr. Nagel and bank director Behrend elected. The White Horse (at that time Quedlinburger Strasse 1/2 / d. Red.) Was chosen as the club’s bar.
Founding members are lawyers and doctors
The first members were mainly lawyers, doctors, businessmen, teachers – well-known and well-known Halberstadt citizens. The section was entered in the register of associations at the Halberstadt District Court about six months later, on November 6, 1909. The statutes had already been passed during the founding meeting on March 30, 1909.
On May 19, 1909, the Halberstadt Section went public for the first time with a slide show, so that “members and guests … could go on an excursion into the high mountains of the Alps under expert guidance without effort and risk”. The first general meeting of the Halberstadt section of the Alpine Club finally took place on January 30, 1912, also in the Hotel “Weißes Roß”. To be continued
