On Sunday March 26, 2023, Mali celebrated the 32nd anniversary of the advent of democratic pluralism. Indeed, the popular uprising led in March 1991, with ardor and determination, was completed by a group of patriotic soldiers led by Lieutenant-Colonel Amadou Toumani Touré. The establishment of fundamental freedoms, political openness with the advent of the multiparty system, were, among other things, the first strong acts taken by the leaders of the Transition of 91. From then on, the democratic forces made up of the military branch and representatives of the Democratic Movement, succeeded in leading the Transition in an irreproachable manner. The Transition Committee for the Salvation of the People (CTSP), led by ATT, has fully honored its contract with the Malian people.
By honoring his commitment to the people, by respecting his officer’s oath, by reconciling the army and the security forces with the Malian people, Amadou Toumani Touré has inscribed his name in gold letters in the glorious pages of the country. The Myth ATT was thus born!
But to achieve this victory of the people against the dictatorship, men and women have paid a high price…
Beyond that, what remains of the revolution of 91?
Malian democracy, despite its infancy, has long been cited as an example on the continent. The aspiration of the Malian people for more freedom or better being remain intact. So that sometimes, some citizens want too much, demand without limits and fall into excess. For them, democracy rhymes with anarchy and they must necessarily get on well together. The confusion is quickly made! This confusion, it must be admitted, has brought the country close to the worst in recent years.
Moreover, over the past thirty years, the masks have fallen. Certain actors of the Democratic Movement appeared under their true face. Hence a terrible mess between “sincere patriots”, “convinced patriots” and other “early democrats”. In this mess, the citizen seems lost and no longer knows where to turn.
Over the years, the Democratic Movement has fractured and weakened because of the differences between its members. jobs: these are all acts that quickly erased the euphoria of March 91.
The collective momentum of the post-revolution was broken, according to the personal and partisan interests of certain actors of the Democratic Movement. Hence many questions from citizens.
After the first euphoria, the disappointment of the Malians has manifested itself over the years by its disinterest in “politics”.
Elections and other political events have ceased to attract people. Clearly, the disavowal is scathing at the address of the political class. Because many hopes have been disappointed! And the Democratic Movement as a whole has a great responsibility in this situation.
Sad reality !
