Foamy Urine Can Result in Proteinuria, and Kidney Disorders

Proteinuria or albuminuria is a condition in which the amount of protein content in the urine exceeds the normal threshold. One reason is when the kidneys’ filters, called glomeruli, are damaged, causing proteins in the blood to leak out through the urine.

Normally, the kidneys will filter excess water and waste from the blood to be excreted through urine. Protein and other essential substances needed by the body will be allowed to stay in the bloodstream because they are too big to pass through the kidneys’ filters.

However, if the kidneys are damaged, the filter cannot filter properly, so that protein can enter the urine.

Proteinuria itself is a sign of chronic kidney disease that can be caused by high blood pressure or uncontrolled diabetes, endocarditis, nephrotic syndrome, and kidney inflammation.
