FNV: the government is encouraging truck drivers to solve parking problems

UTRECHT – Anns July reported on FNV to be in consultation with TLN to come together on the subject of ‘driver parking problems’. They have now spoken and made a follow-up meeting. “We are also including our lobbyists, management and the CNV in this. Together we must put pressure on politicians, because without pressure we will not achieve anything,” said the FNV trade union.

It is the revolution of the government

The government, together with lower authorities, such as provinces and municipalities, is the only one that can solve parking problems. Because cities often don’t want a stretch of asphalt with parking spaces on it.

There were plans for six new car parks, but only two of these have been realized so far. according to the FNV trade union. “Not only must there be at least 250 spaces for each car park, but there must also be food facilities to make it profitable. There are also all kinds of requirements applied to these areas as a result of the Environmental Management Act, such as liquid floors, fire extinguishing systems, etc. Safety is of course also important.”

“We are seeing that more and more business areas are introducing parking restrictions. That makes the parking problem even worse. After all, shippers and receivers are responsible for undertaking this. Everyone wants to get and ship goods, but the people who do that have to look after themselves. That doesn’t work.”

FNV starts an investigation

What do you think the ideal parking space looks like in terms of safety, comfort and feasibility of your operation? Let FNV know what facilities you need and what requirements a good car park must meet. Send them your ideas, experiences and suggestions. “We will take that information with us to the consultation. In this way you will help us to represent your interests strongly,” concluded FNV.
