The court authorized PostNL’s mail and parcel carriers to stop working on November 25 and 26. But the strike shouldn’t lead to delays in urgent mail, such as funeral cards and medical letters. For this reason, the FNV union called off the strike.
The union says it cannot meet these court demands.
FNV and some PostNL employees want higher wages and want to enforce this demand with a strike. The strike was initially announced for Tuesday but was canceled when talks between FNV and the company resumed.
The union had previously announced that it would prepare a strike on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November. During Black Friday, shops often sell more, even online, due to the large number of offers.
Postal company PostNL said it did not initiate summary proceedings to ban a strike, but wanted guarantees that important mail would be delivered on time on the days of the strike.
In its own words, PostNL is taking “operational measures to limit the influence of any promotions, so that customers and consumers can enjoy a beautiful Sinterklaas and the Christmas season as much as possible”.
The collective labor agreement in question applies to approximately 19,000 employees. PostNL’s postal couriers, around 16,000 people, have their own collective labor agreement.
