FNV calls on stores to skip Black Friday for a year because of corona | NOW

FNV is calling on retailers to completely skip Black Friday, this year on 27 November. Directors of FNV Handel insist urged employers on Saturday to “not also put public health on the sale”. The call has been sent to the Nederlandsche Detailhandel Council.

Black Friday has come over from the United States in recent years and heralds the start of the season for Christmas shopping. Many shops in our country now advertise with offers and bait. Many customers come to this every year, and online sales are also increasing enormously.

More customers automatically also means more people who come into contact with each other, which could spread the corona virus further. “By stopping this, we will prevent the number of corona infections in the Netherlands from rising again,” said the directors, speaking on behalf of store employees and employees of the distribution centers in the country.

The union finds Black Friday incompatible with the current corona measures. “All employees who can work cooperate and in some stores there are even crush barriers to properly guide the influx of customers. It is also very busy in the distribution centers.”

“In many stores and distribution centers, it is certainly impossible to follow the corona measures, especially at such times. This will definitely lead to very undesirable situations”, according to FNV.
