It became clear on Monday that 900 SAS pilots go on strike, which can hit as many as 250 departures daily. Tens of thousands of frustrated air passengers now have to look for other alternatives.
Norwegian announced earlier this year that they have largely sold out the summer program. The main competitor does not have many vacant seats for travel-hungry Norwegians who fear that the holiday dream is in danger. They still notice the progress.
– We see a very large increase in bookings. We have seen this since a potential strike was announced two weeks ago. But after the negotiations were postponed, it has increased and especially after 11 today, there has been a sharp increase, says communications director Grete Roald to TV2.
The newcomer Flyr has spare capacity, and they immediately notice the strike.
– It’s boiling at the customer center with us now, writes Anita Svanes, Svanes’ communications director at Flyr, in a text message to Nettavisen.

Fill up
According to Svanes, Flyr still has a number of available tickets for both domestic and international flights, but it fills up quickly at the most popular destinations.
Svanes encourages you to check the company’s website to see where there are still vacant seats. But Flyr will not set up any additional departures beyond what they already have in the program.

The newly started airline has a dozen routes from Gardermoen, of which all the major cities / airports in Norway. Well-known destinations in Europe include Stockholm, Paris, Nice, Rome, Athens and Gran Canaria, but Flyr has no routes outside Europe.
Lost a lot of money
The low-cost airline had its first flights in June 2021, but has been hit hard by the pandemic and shutdowns. In the first quarter, Flyr lost NOK 212 millionr, but was still pleased with the development.
– We have been through a demanding winter, but we have a super efficient operation with, among other things, employees who are direct employees of the company. But a sale of one million booked seats, we are brilliantly satisfied, said CEO Tonje Wikstrøm Frislid, in Flyr at a press conference at the end of May.

– It takes time to build a brand, but we are on the right track, Flyr emphasized and stated that 120,000 customers have joined the company’s benefit program Flyr +, Frislid said.
