Flynn case: Serious allegations against US Department of Justice

Former judge John Gleeson has made clear criticism of the Department of Justice over the case of US President Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn.

The Ministry had unexpectedly petitioned a federal court in Washington to end Flynn’s trial a month ago. As a result, retired judge John Gleeson was instructed to examine the application as an uninvolved person. However, it is not up to him to decide on the application.

There is “clear evidence of gross abuse of law enforcement powers,” Gleeson’s statement said on Wednesday. The government had acted “extremely unlawfully” to help a political ally of the president.

Flynn was only 23 days as National Security Advisor in 2017. He later admitted in the course of the investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election that he had lied to the FBI. He is also said to have lied to Vice President Mike Pence. In January, Flynn requested that his confession be withdrawn. US President Donald Trump hailed Flynn as a “hero” after the Justice Department’s move in May.

The Justice Department argued that it was not convinced that Flynn’s hearing in January 2017 was on a legitimate investigative basis. Even if Flynn’s statements were wrong, you don’t think they were relevant. In addition, one does not assume that one can sufficiently prove the false statements or their relevance.
