Flydubai to Launch Direct Flights from Dubai to Mombasa: Expanding Network in Africa

Flydubai announced yesterday that it will start operating regular flights to the Kenyan city of Mombasa, starting from January 17 next year 2024, thus becoming the first national carrier to operate direct flights from Dubai and the UAE to this coastal city in southeastern Kenya.

Flights to Moi International Airport (MBA) will be operated four times a week, starting from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

Flydubai revealed that with the launch of its flights to Mombasa, it is expanding its network in Africa to 11 destinations in 10 countries, pointing out that its current destinations include: Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Asmara, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Entebbe, Hargeisa, Juba, Mogadishu. , and Zanzibar.

“We are always committed to strengthening air links to unserved markets, and to strengthening Dubai as a global hub for aviation,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of Flydubai.

He added, “Dubai has witnessed steady growth in African investments since Expo 2020 Dubai, with more than 26,000 African companies registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce,” pointing out that direct “flydubai” flights to Mombasa, starting in January, and the operations of the carrier growing in Africa, will increase trade and tourism flows between the UAE and East African markets.

“There is a lot of potential in the African markets, and we look forward to strengthening our presence on the continent as we continue to expand our network and fleet over the coming years,” Al Ghaith continued.

For his part, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent) at flydubai, Sudhir Sridharan, said: “Africa is a very important market for (flydubai), and we are keen to explore the available opportunities. To better serve the market by providing convenient and easy travel options to travel to Dubai and beyond within the joint (Fly Dubai) and (Emirates Airlines) network.

He added, “Mombasa will be another great destination on our network for travelers from the UAE, GCC and Europe looking for pristine beaches, wildlife parks and cultural experiences. We look forward to launching our flights there at a rate of four times a week, and increasing our flights to the market in the future.”

Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya and is known for its ancient architecture and beautiful sandy beaches. The city plays a vital role in the import and export movement and serves as a gateway to East Africa, serving not only Kenya, but also its neighboring countries.
