“Flydubai flight hit by bird during takeoff in Kathmandu, Nepal”

Flydubai said on Wednesday that initial assessments of a technical problem that occurred on one of its flights when taking off from Kathmandu, Nepal, on Monday indicated a bird had hit the fuselage, but the company would check the engine again to determine the cause.

On Tuesday, Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority questioned whether the flydubai plane had collided with a bird in Nepalese airspace, describing the UAE airline’s account of the incident as “misleading”.

The airline said a flight carrying 167 passengers from Nepal’s capital Kathmandu to Dubai was hit by a bird while taking off late on Monday.

“Flight FZ576… landed normally at Dubai International Airport after encountering a technical problem on take-off from Kathmandu,” a spokesperson for “flydubai” said today, Wednesday, “initial assessment indicated a collision with a bird.”

“After following standard operating procedures, the flight crew determined the engine was in good working order (…) and proceeded to Dubai. Further inspection of the engine is underway,” he added.

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority did not respond to a request for comment on the incident.

Flight 576, a Boeing 737-800, landed normally in Dubai on Monday night.

The company said that “flydubai” flights to Kathmandu Airport are operating according to the specified times.
