Fly Helicopters To Make Oxygen

Jakarta

Not long ago landed on the surface Mars, rover robotics Perseverance has made various breakthroughs. It does not yet calculate its main mission, which is to find traces of past life. Here are some of the accomplishments this NASA mission has achieved:

1. High Resolution Color Photos

Perseverance immediately took many photos after visiting the Red Planet some time ago, including stunning color shots. What is considered the coolest is the selfie photo right when Perseverance will land on the surface of Mars, taken in February.

This photo that looks like it will continue to live in the history of space exploration was taken by the camera on the rocket-engined ‘space crane’ device tasked with lowering the rover to the landing site with a special cable.

It can be seen how the whole form of the rover has been on the surface of Mars, lowered by three cables. There are also other cables that serve as a means of communication.

This high-resolution color photo is considered historic because it was the first time a close-up shot was recorded of a spacecraft landing on Mars. “This is something we’ve never seen before,” said Aaron Stehura, the NASA scientist in charge of the landing process.

A few moments later, a Perseverance camera snapped a color photo of the surface of Mars that revealed the rocks on the Red Planet. Previously, the first photos sent from Mars were still blurry because they weren’t from the best cameras but were cameras for maneuvering.

2. First Helicopter Flight on Mars

For the first time, a helicopter-like flying vehicle hovers in the air on Mars. The mini helicopter named Ingenuity is in Perseverance’s body, then it is released and manages to fly on its own.

“We can now say that humans have flown helicopters on other planets,” said Ingenuity Project Manager MiMi Aung.

Ingenuity manages to conduct this flight autonomously without control from Earth. NASA scientists simply upload the order to Ingenuity which then performs pre-flight to flight checks in seconds.

NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter later also managed to make its second flight on Mars. This time Ingenuity manages to fly higher with a longer duration and more complicated maneuvers.

Ingenuity’s second flight takes place on Thursday, April 22 at 5:33 a.m. Eastern United States time, just three days after its historic first flight. If Ingenuity’s first flight hovers for 39 seconds, this time the mini helicopter flies for 52 seconds.
