Saturday night, in addition to being very special for the tricolors, was also historic. That’s because, by winning 3-1 in the Fla-Flu 435, the Fluminense reached an unprecedented milestone. For the first time, it surpassed the Flamengo for no less than four times in official games in one year.
Before, Tricolor had already defeated the rival four times in a year in three other occasions (1938, 1946 and, the last time, in 1971), but at least one of those matches had been friendly.
The first tricolor victory over Flamengo in 2021 happened right in the first commitment of the teams of the year. On January 6th, Flu got the better of the classic still valid by Brazilian championship 2020. Luccas Claro and Yago Felipe scored the goals in the 2-1 victory, in a comeback.
Then, on March 14, it was Igor Julião’s turn to be the tricolor hero in the 1-0 victory for the Carioca Championship. Then, on July 4, another triumph for the minimum score, with André scoring the goal that guaranteed Fluminense three points in the current edition of the Brasileirão.
Lastly, this Saturday, John Kennedy (twice) and Abel Hernández secured their fourth tricolor victory, this time 3-1, in Fla-Flus in 2021.
