Flu Vaccine Campaign: Over 1,000 Children Vaccinated in First Three Weeks

More than a thousand children between 6 months and 5 years old (1,021, specifically) have received the flu vaccine in the first three weeks of the campaign, according to official data from the Ministry of Health. This means that just over 9% of children of these ages have already responded to the invitation to protect themselves from health authorities, who for the first time included this group among those to whom this vaccine is recommended. In total, 35,823 doses have already been administered throughout Burgos; half, among those over 75 years of age.

In Castilla y León, prophylaxis for influenza viruses is generally indicated for people over 60 years of age. But a new one is added to this recommendation every year, with the aim of avoiding complications for groups that are considered most vulnerable and, at the same time, to prevent health services from becoming saturated. Thus, in addition to children between 6 months and 5 years old, smokers were also included in this campaign for the first time.

In the rest of the ‘risk cohorts’ there have been no changes with respect to previous campaigns: health and social health personnel, teachers; workers on poultry, swine or mink farms; employees of the State security forces and bodies; pregnant women and women who have been breastfeeding for less than six months and were not protected against the disease during pregnancy; chronically ill… To do this, you must make an appointment.
