The Călărași district received this month a batch of 3200 doses of flu vaccines, and the immunization has begun. The vaccines are in a single dose, embedded in a special syringe, and the medicine was distributed in all nine sectors in the district, resulting from the planning that each medical institution did.
Vera Lefter, an epidemiologist at the Călăraşi Public Health Center, said that the doses received represent only 58% of what is needed, so another 2,300 doses would arrive in the district as soon as possible. “Vaccination started well, taking into account the fact that only in the first three days we already have 292 vaccinated patients. The most active turned out to be the doctors from Bravicea, who vaccinated 62 people in three days, as well as those from Pitușca, with 45 doses administered,” Vera Lefter told us.
According to her, vaccination is mainly given to people with increased risk of illness: people with chronic diseases, diabetics, tuberculosis patients, those with cardiovascular, oncological diseases, etc. At the same time, the administration of the vaccine also benefits people from at-risk contingents, such as: medical workers, policemen, employees of nursing homes, employees who have to intervene in exceptional situations, but also assistants and social workers, etc.
Regarding the quality of the administered vaccine, the epidemiologist said that it is high, being of Dutch origin, and that it would be good for all patients to be vaccinated this pre-season, so that the effect is as expected. “It all depends on how involved the medical workers are in one locality or another. If they do their job conscientiously and explain to patients that flu immunization reduces the risk of illness, severe illness and death, then things will work themselves out. Where there is no engagement, the numbers are low,” concluded Vera Lefter.
NOTE: The flu is manifested by fever, chills, marked asthenia, headache, pain in the eyeballs, runny nose or stuffy nose, cough, sore throat. Some people may experience vomiting and diarrhoea, this is more common in children than adults.
