People who have received a flu shot may be partially protected against some serious consequences of a corona infection. The chance that they end up in hospital is smaller, according to American scientists.
They analyzed nearly 75,000 corona patients and found a significant decrease in the number of thrombosis and strokes in people who received corona while having had a flu shot. They were also less frequently admitted to the IC.
The flu vaccine may offer protection because it generally stimulates the immune system. It is also possible that those who have had a flu shot have stronger health.
“We have found that a flu shot offers some protection against severe Covid-19,” said Devinder Singh, a professor at the University of Miami. If follow-up research confirms the findings, the flu shot could be interesting for countries where few people have been vaccinated yet.
