Floris and the Flames Turn Traffic Jam into Impromptu Concert on German Motorway

They had just completed a number of concerts in Friedrichshafen, Germany and Jenbach, Austria, when Floris Willem (30), Gert Peeten (27), Dries Peeten (29) and Simon Schrooten (25) got stuck on the way to their home base in Pelt. in a traffic jam. “A long traffic jam,” Gert begins, “we stood still for an hour and of course so did the cars around us.” The foursome together form the music band ‘Floris and the Flames’ and, packed with all their instruments, they quickly came up with an idea: “’Let’s make this a fun moment and brighten up the people around us.’” In short, so done. All travelers on the German motorway were treated to the swinging sounds of the music group.

“It was a lot of fun to do because we walked from car to car and in every car people were filming, clapping or even getting out to dance,” Gert continues. “It was nice that it was so appreciated. Of course, everyone stood still and that way we were able to turn the traffic jam into a fun moment.”

What genre do the friends play? “You can best compare it to a pop group where you replace the singer with a violinist. We perform reworkings of classical music, but also our own compositions or cover artists such as Queen or Led Zeppelin. We make a mixture between the different genres of classical, Folk, Pop, Jazz, Rock, … And always in a fiery jacket!” And you can take that literally because surprisingly enough, the four band members all have red hair color. “So it can always be fiery and with spirit!”
