Authorities in Florida have identified a woman who was found dead after residents saw an alligator moving around with a body in its mouth.
Authorities responded to a call Friday in the Largo, Tampa Bay neighborhood. Saturday by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 41-year-old Sabrina Peckham.
Witness JaMarcus Bullard told CNN affiliate Spectrum News 13 that he had previously seen an alligator moving around with a human body in its mouth.
Officials humanely euthanized the 13-foot, 8.5-inch male alligator, according to the sheriff’s office and Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Alligators have been spotted in the area before, but resident Jennifer Dean told Spectrum News 13 she had never seen one this big before.
“A lot of my neighbors were here and they told me about the alligator,” Deena said. “While we were standing here, we heard a shot. I assume they killed the reptile,” he said.
