Florida Ticket Sells for $1.58 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot, Ending Months of Lottery Futility

Florida Grocery Store Sells Winning Ticket for $1.58 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — After nearly four months of no winners, a single ticket sold in Florida has won the $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot. The winning ticket was sold at a Publix grocery store in Neptune Beach, according to the Florida Lottery. The winning numbers drawn on Tuesday night were 13, 19, 20, 32, 33, and the yellow ball 14.

Publix and the Florida Lottery have not yet commented on the win. This jackpot comes after 31 consecutive drawings without a winner since April 18, allowing the prize to grow to become the third-largest in U.S. history.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are one in 302.6 million, making jackpot winners extremely rare. The $1.58 billion prize can be claimed as an annuity, paid out over 30 years, or as a lump sum option. For Tuesday’s jackpot, the estimated lump sum option is $783.3 million.

The prize money is subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings. Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Neptune Beach, with just over 7,000 residents, is located 16 miles east of Jacksonville on Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
