Florida teenager arrested who “joked” about shooting his school on social media – Noticias Ya

(NOTICIAS YA) .- A teenager was detained this Monday by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, after having published alleged threats that involved shooting at her school, on her social networks. The message, which the young woman also published later that “it was a joke”, was disseminated until it reached the authorities.

Isabella Bailey-Hopkins, 13, posted this Sunday on her Snapchat account “I can’t be the only one who wants to shoot my school, I’m not going to do it with just one thought”, followed by: “Are you okay? No, tomorrow is Monday”, a message that she also placed on her TikTok and was captured on multiple occasions, so when she realized it, the minor deleted her publication and made a new one that said: “To everyone who reposted, it was a joke and I didn’t mean it”.

The alleged shooting threat would be directed at Pinellas Park High School, Pinellas County. His statement was late, as the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office had obtained his first message anonymously. Agents interviewed Bailey-Hopkins with her parents and the minor admitted to having published the threats, according to official information.

Bailey-Hopkins was arrested and taken to the Pinellas Juvenile Screening Center, charged with one count of written threats to carry out mass shootings.

Despite the fact that authorities indicated that Bailey-Hopkins did not have access to firearms, as well as not appearing to have the means to carry out the threat, these types of actions are not considered “jokes or games.”

It is important that parents talk with their children about their concerns and about the responsibility of their publications on social networks, which even if they consider jokes or just a comment, can change their lives. For this, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has a social media resource for parents, called “A Toolkit for Parents,” which can be accessed on your official website.
