A Florida man is facing multiple charges after an infant was found covered in a flammable liquid, officials with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office in New York announced Wednesday.
Jamie Avery, 28, of West Palm Beach, Florida, is charged with attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, attempted arson, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon that two people were taken into custody after a 1-year-old boy was found covered in flammable liquid near a gas station in Tyre, New York, on Tuesday. Authorities say the boy was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“The minor was immediately handed over to the Northside Ambulance and transported to Geneva General Hospital,” Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Luce said.
Police say around the same time, a 4-year-old boy was found with head injuries in a tractor-trailer. The police took the boy to the hospital for treatment.
According to sheriff’s department officials, both boys are expected to survive and make a full recovery.
Avery was arraigned in Seneca County Court and held on $100,000 cash bond. No word yet on other charges for the other person who was detained.
