At the end of last year, the police in Florida received a tip about a man who had hit a shark with a hammer.
A surveillance video from the scene shows how two men are fishing on the beach in Florida when they catch what is believed to be a lemon shark. The witness who saw the incident was then able to point out the 33-year-old.
Acknowledged – but not explained
The one man then hits the shark in the head repeatedly with a hammer before dragging it back into the water.
Lemon sharks are a protected species in Florida and the man is now suspected of several animal welfare crimes. Earlier this year, the man was supposed to appear in court to take part in the suspicions – but did not appear. Now he has been arrested by the police.
Fox News writes that the man admitted the act but has not given any explanation as to why. Local authorities tried after the incident to locate the shark but were unsuccessful.
