Florida’s unemployment rate of 4.9% for September 2021 fell 0.1 percentage point from August 2021. Florida continues to experience substantial increases in the workforce compared to the nation, meaning more people are actively returning to look for work and They rely on the state’s economy to give them the ability to find a new job. While Florida continues to experience a steady increase in the workforce, the nation experienced a decline in the workforce, which may be a sign that job seekers in other states are losing confidence in job opportunities and have stopped looking for work.
Florida’s workforce increased by 540,000 during the year, and 423,000 of that increase occurred in the past six months. This continues to show the success of the state’s “Back to Work” initiative as more Floridians return to the workforce. Florida’s unemployment rate has declined during the year, decreasing by 2.3 percentage points. Data for the month of September indicates that there are still many job opportunities available to Floridians across the state, with more than 520,000 jobs posted online.

Florida’s economic indicators for September 2021 include the following:
- Florida gained a total of 84,500 jobs during the month.
- Florida businesses gained 72,700 private sector jobs during the month.
- The workforce increased by 50,000 during the month, bringing the September 2021 total to 10,593,000.
- Florida’s workforce growth represents a 5.4% increase over the year compared to 0.8% nationally.
- Florida’s private sector employment increased 411,400, or 5.6%, during the year, higher than the national rate of 4.6%.
- Florida’s private sector job growth rate for the month was 0.9%, three times higher than the national rate of 0.3%.
- The private sector industries that obtained the most jobs during the month were:
- Leisure and hospitality with 26,600 new jobs
- Commerce, transport and public services with 19,200 new jobs
- Professional and business services with 10,400 new jobs
- Construction with 6,900 new jobs
- Education and health services with 6,300 new jobs
