The governor of the US state of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who announced his participation in the US presidential election, would not like the participation of the American army in the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia if he wins. He stated this on May 24 in an interview Fox News.
According to the governor, he wants a “settlement” in the war unleashed by the Russian Federation.
“As far as what is happening in Eastern Europe, you know, I would like to see a settlement of this. I don’t want to see another big war. It is completely unknown what it will look like in January 2025. But I would not want the United States to our troops were drawn into the war in Russia or in Ukraine,” DeSantis said.
When asked what he would do on the first day of his presidency, the Florida governor criticized the state of the US military, which, in his opinion, is too involved in gender, political and even climate issues.
“We must return our army to a focus on duty, on core values and a key mission,” the politician added.
The fact that DeSantis, as a representative of the Republican Party, filed documents with the Electoral Commission to participate in the 2024 presidential election, was reported on May 24 CNN and Associated Press. DeSantis planned to officially announce this on May 25 during a conversation with the owner of the social network Twitter Elon Musk on the Twitter Spaces audio platform.
March 22 at New York Post DeSantis said he considers Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal. Commenting on a warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court for kidnapping Ukrainian children, DeSantis said that Putin is a “war criminal” and should be held accountable.
In the same interview, he explained his statement on March 13 on Fox News that “further involvement in the territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia” is not one of the “vital national interests” of the United States, after which he was actively criticized by colleaguesRepublicans. He stated that Russia had no right to enter Crimea in 2014 or launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
