Florida Governor and one of the likely US presidential candidates from the Republican Party Ron DeSantis wants a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He said this in an interview with a Japanese publication. Nikkei Asia.
According to him, the Russian war against Ukraine allegedly caused financial difficulties in the United States, as military aid reaches tens of billions of dollars.
“We have a foreign policy elite that is acting without a specific goal in mind. Growing financial debt fuels inflation and leads to higher interest rates, limiting the government’s ability to take new political initiatives,” DeSantis said.
He noted that the war could become protracted.
“You don’t want to end up in a situation like the Battle of Verdun, where you just have massive casualties, massive spending and ultimately a stalemate,” the politician said, referring to the longest and bloodiest battle of the First World War.
The Florida governor stressed that “everyone has an interest in trying to get to a place where we can have a ceasefire.”
