In an interview with Newsmax, Ron DeSantis declared that he had won a victory against the multinational, stressing that it had ceased to speak out on social issues.
“Since our dispute last year, Disney has not taken a position on any of these issues. She didn’t say a word,” he said.
The company had opposed the Florida Governor’s Parental Rights in Education Bill. The bill sought to prevent teachers from talking about gender identity or sexual orientation to students before the fourth grade.
In response to Disney’s opposition, Ron DeSantis passed a law to regain control of the territory of Walt Disney World and thus remove the special status enjoyed by the company for more than 50 years in the Orlando area.
The company then filed a lawsuit against the governor of Florida accusing him of exercising “political revenge”.
Ron DeSantis maintains that a private company should not be exempt from the laws.
For the politician, his victory against Disney is therefore double.
“Disney has no right to pervert the system to the detriment of Floridians. It’s a win for Floridians,” he said.
