Florida: Eleven-year-old would-be kidnappers apparently with blue slime

In the US state of Florida, a young girl found a suspected criminal in a rather unusual way. The child smeared blue toy slime on the arm of the man who, according to the prosecutor, threatened her with a knife while waiting for the school bus and wanted to drag her into a van. So she made the man identifiable for the police, as reported by several media.

Eleven-year-old Alyssa from the city of Pensacola came up with the quick-witted idea of the slime, apparently because of her favorite television series: She said she knew the importance of evidence from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”. “I was able to get the mucus on his upper arm and a little on his forearm,” she told NBC’s Today Show. “I knew that could be better evidence if the police found him.”

The mucus clung to the arm for hours

The plan actually worked. After Alyssa managed to tear herself away from the man and thus prevent the alleged kidnapping, the police launched a manhunt. On the one hand there was the footage from a neighbor’s surveillance camera, and on the other: Alyssa’s slime.

When the police caught a suspect on Tuesday, a few hours after the kidnapping attempt, they could soon be sure that they had caught the right one: There was still blue slime on Jared Paul S.’s arm, said Sheriff Chip Simmons.

The girl received praise for her idea from an actress from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, or SVU for short: “You are a courageous, strong and clever young woman,” wrote actress Mariska Hargitay in an Instagram post. “I think the SVU force might need to add slime to their crime-fighting equipment!”

The suspect 30-year-old was remanded in custody for attempted kidnapping, assault and assault. However, his lawyer questioned the circumstances of the arrest in court: Alyssa initially said that her failed kidnapper looked like a Hispanic American – but his client was white.

Prosecutors reportedly replied that the evidence against the accused was strong. The silver bumper of the delivery truck, with which Alyssa was apparently supposed to be kidnapped, had just been painted black. During the search, the investigators had made a public appeal, among other things, to the silver bumper of the vehicle.

In addition, the accused was seen in a nearby shop a few minutes after the attack – in exactly the same clothes that the attacker wore.
